Uttar Pradesh Textile Technology Institute

The Government Central Textile Institute (GCTI) is an institute in Kanpur, India, with courses in textile technology. The need for the institute dates back to the days when Kanpur was called the Manchester of the East, and the local textile industry needed the experts created by the institute. GCTI was established in 1914 by the British Government.

Now most students head towards textile centres like Jamnagar or Surat in Gujarat, or Ludhiana in Punjab, after passing out, as most of the textile factories in Kanpur have shut down.

The institute after getting World Bank support is known as Uttar Pradesh Textile Technology Institute.
